We kicked off our month-long celebration of Black History Month here at the Dallas Museum of Art with the First Tuesdays celebration this week. Our theme was Superheroes and was inspired by the Jacob Lawrence: The Life of Toussaint L’Ouverture exhibition.

This gadget "helps whip the bad guys" and doubles as a fishing pole

We made superhero gadgets in the Art Studio (I love that this little guy came dressed in his Santa outfit)….

Storytelling and drumming with Melody Bell

…played drums, sang, and danced with Afrikan griot Melody “AFI” Bell.

Whew! What a fun day! We hope you’ll join us for the Art from Africa to America Family Celebration on February 27th!
