Friday Eavesdropping

"Semiramis" by William Wetmore Story; 1872-1873; Marble; Dallas Museum of Art, Gift of Morynne and Robert E. Motley in memory of Robert Earl Motley, Jr., 1942-1998

I had a group of 4 and 5-year olds visit the museum on a field trip this week, and when they saw this work of art, this is what I heard:

“I know what that is! It’s the Statue of Liberty sitting down!”

“I think it’s a beautiful princess.”

“It looks like a mean queen. Her face is mad.”
